Alabama’s Rural Health Transformation Program includes 11 initiatives designed to strengthen access to care, expand the rural workforce and modernize healthcare infrastructure in rural communities.

Workforce & Training
• Rural Workforce Initiative ($309.7SM): Expands the pipeline for physicians, nurses, and EMS personnel through training and residencies.
• Simulation Training Initiative ($15.SM): Establishes regional centers for hands-on clinical training for emergency and medical staff.
Infrastructure & Digital Modernization
• Rural Health Initiative ($275M): Builds regional hub systems and telehealth networks to link rural clinics with larger health systems.
• Collaborative EHR, IT & Cybersecurity ($12SM): Modernizes digital records and strengthens cybersecurity across rural facilities.
Specialized Care & Targeted Health
• Mental Health Initiative ($45.75M): Increases access to behavioral health through schools and tele-mental health programs.
