Dr. Beverly Jordan Elected Vice Speaker of the AAFP Congress of Delegates
Alabama now has a voice in the leadership of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Beverly Jordan, MD, FAAFP, of Enterprise, was elected vice speaker of the AAFP Congress of Delegates at the 2026 Congress in Nashville, which met October 19-21.
Dr. Jordan will serve a one-year term. The vice speaker sits on the national AAFP Board of Directors, presides over Congress of Delegates meetings when the speaker is absent or asks her to, and chairs the Board’s Resolution and Policy Review Subcommittee. She also helps the speaker plan and run the annual Congress, which is where the Academy sets its policy.
“Dr. Jordan has been a leader in Alabama family medicine for a long time, and this is a well-earned recognition,” said Alabama Chapter Executive Vice President Jeffrey E. Arrington.
A career built in organized medicine
Dr. Jordan is a board-certified family physician with added qualifications in sports medicine. She has practiced at Professional Medical Associates in Enterprise since 2006, where she is a senior partner and owner. She is also Regional Medical Director for Aledade ACO.
She has served our Academy as President, Chairman of the Board, and a multiple-term Board member. Nationally, she has served on the AAFP Commission on Finance and Insurance and the Commission on Quality and Scope of Practice.
Her work beyond the Academy has reached across Alabama medicine. She is Chairman of the Board of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, where she previously served as Vice Speaker and Speaker of the House of Delegates. She chairs the Alabama State Committee of Public Health and the Alabama Joint Committee on Advanced Practice. She has also served on the Credentials Committee of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Jordan is committed to medical education as well. She is a Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama School of Medicine and was named Site Director for the Community Integrated Experience at the Tuscaloosa Regional Campus in 2025. She is a frequent speaker on collaborative practice, controlled substance prescribing, rural physician recruitment, and sports medicine.
What this means for Alabama
Her experience presiding over a large delegate body and her years working on scope-of-practice and rural workforce issues now carry into the national forum where AAFP policy is decided. For Alabama family physicians, that means one of our own has a seat at the table.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jordan. Congratulations, and thank you for your service to our specialty and our state.
