Candidate for AAFP Vice Speaker
I am honored to submit my candidacy for Vice Speaker of the American Academy of Family Physicians. My commitment to organized family medicine has been a defining thread throughout my career, and I view the Congress of Delegates as the cornerstone of AAFP’s democratic process—where thoughtful governance, respectful debate, and strategic vision shape the future of our specialty. Having participated in the Congress of Delegates for more than two decades and served in numerous leadership roles at the state and national levels, I am prepared to contribute my experience, skills, and dedication to this role.
My leadership background reflects sustained service within complex governance systems. I currently serve as Chairman of the Board of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and as Chair of the Alabama State Committee of Public Health, where I work collaboratively with physicians and policymakers to advance public health and healthcare delivery across our state.
I also serve as Chair of the Alabama Joint Committee on Advanced Practice, navigating the evolving relationships between physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives to support collaborative, patient-centered care. In addition, I have served as Chairman of the Board, President, and multiple terms as a Board member of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians, along with national service on AAFP commissions, including the Commission on Finance and Insurance and the Commission on Quality and Scope of Practice.
I bring extensive experience in parliamentary procedure and presiding over deliberative bodies. My four years of service as Vice Speaker and Speaker of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama provided hands-on responsibility for managing formal proceedings, interpreting parliamentary rules in real time, and ensuring fair, orderly, and inclusive debate. These experiences have prepared me to support the Speaker and uphold the integrity and efficiency of the AAFP Congress of Delegates.
Clear communication and public speaking are central to my leadership approach. I have served as a speaker, moderator, and panelist on topics including collaborative practice, controlled substance prescribing, and rural workforce development. I strive to foster clarity, professionalism, and respect for diverse perspectives in every setting.
Strategic planning and financial stewardship have been integral to my service. Through my work with the AAFP Commission on Finance and Insurance and as a Regional Medical Director within an accountable care organization, I have gained experience in budgeting, financial oversight, and long-term sustainability—ensuring alignment between fiscal responsibility and organizational mission.
Collaboration and mentorship are priorities in my leadership. I am committed to developing future physician leaders and fostering teamwork across specialties and practice settings. Through teaching, governance, and committee service, I have mentored physicians and trainees pursuing leadership in organized medicine.
I am adaptable, solution-oriented, and experienced in navigating regulatory and workforce challenges. I approach complex issues with pragmatism, collaboration, and a focus on meaningful outcomes.
Finally, I am committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within AAFP governance. I believe inclusive representation strengthens decision-making and ensures that the Congress reflects the full breadth of family medicine.
It would be a privilege to serve as Vice Speaker. I am prepared to bring experience, institutional knowledge, and deep respect for the Congress of Delegates in service to our members and the future of family medicine.
Biography
Beverly Alison Flowers Jordan, MD, FAAFP is a board-certified family physician and primary care sports medicine specialist dedicated to advancing rural healthcare in Alabama. A senior partner and owner at Professional Medical Associates in Enterprise, Alabama, she has served her community as a trusted primary care physician since 2006.
Dr. Jordan currently serves as Regional Medical Director for Aledade ACO, Chair of the Alabama State Committee of Public Health, and Chairman of the Board of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine after graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from The University of Alabama. She completed her Family Practice Residency at the Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency Program and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine.
A distinguished leader in organized medicine, Dr. Jordan has played a significant role in shaping healthcare policy, regulation, and physician advocacy across Alabama. She served four years in senior leadership with the Medical Association of the State of Alabama as Vice Speaker and Speaker of the House of Delegates and later as Chair of the Board, guiding legislative priorities and advancing the profession statewide.
Dr. Jordan has extensive experience in regulatory and interprofessional practice. As Chair of the Alabama Joint Committee on Collaborative Practice, she helped navigate and strengthen professional relationships among physicians, nurse practitioners, and certified nurse midwives, contributing to the development of collaborative practice frameworks across the state. She also served four years on the Credentials Committee of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, where she participated in the investigation of complaints involving physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants and contributed to the development of rules and regulations governing these disciplines.
Her additional leadership roles include service on commissions for the American Academy of Family Physicians and as Chair of the Alabama Board of Medical Scholarship Awards. She has also served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians.
Deeply committed to medical education, Dr. Jordan serves as Clinical Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama School of Medicine and was appointed Site Director for the Community Integrated Experience at the Tuscaloosa Regional Campus in 2025. She is a frequent speaker on collaborative practice, controlled substance prescribing, rural physician recruitment, and sports medicine.
